Anacostia Rail Holdings and Global Information Systems Cohost the second Short Line Railroads - GIS Opportunities Workshop

When: Wednesday, January 30, 2019 – Thursday, January 31, 2019
Where: National Academy of Railroad Sciences (NARS) facility in Overland Park, Kansas

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are increasingly redefining how we utilize information in many industries. There are numerous new and expanded opportunities available to the short line railroad management to positively impact engineering, operations, and management. This is true for those many short line and regional railroads that already make considerable use of GIS as well as those that may only be beginning to recognize the benefits.

Following the success of an initial workshop co-hosted by Watco Companies and Global Information Systems LLC in January 2018, a second workshop has been organized.  This year Anacostia Rail Holdings and Global Information Systems LLC are co-hosting a two-day workshop at the National Academy of Railroad Sciences (NARS) facility in Overland Park, Kansas, on January 30 and 31, 2019. The principal objective is to have railroad people talking to railroad people. In addition to Anacostia, several other short line railroads have agreed to present their current and planned GIS applications on their properties. These range in scope from emergency response to real estate management to enterprise GIS. Railroads actively involved in GIS and those considering GIS initiatives are encouraged to attend.
