GIS Technician/Analyst Job Description
The GIS Analyst captures and implements best practices on data management and GIS usage for our energy customers. The GIS Analyst seeks to understand the client’s needs and works with internal and external technical staff to devise GIS solutions which can include implementation of existing software products, deployment of custom software applications and provision of consulting services. The GIS Analyst works with project managers and project resources to ensure that the project is delivered successfully and maintains contact with the client throughout.
Principal Responsibilities and Activities
Utilize GIS Software to digitize Asset Data into GIS Database
Review Documents, Drawings, and Markups
Implement GIS solutions to problems and considers timeliness, effectiveness, and practicality in addressing client needs.
Generate innovative solutions by approaching problems with curiosity and open mindedness, using existing information to its fullest potential.
Assist in the planning for various projects, including development of the project scope, task organization, estimates of effort and other required resources, and schedules necessary to complete the project.
Communicate openly and frequently with clients during the course of a project to ensure that all quality control issues are addressed efficiently to the client’s satisfaction.
Observe client activities and look for ways to improve GIS services to existing clients and to grow the client base. Develop and participate in ongoing client maintenance and support opportunities such as presentations and relationship-building activities.
Degree in GIS or 2+ years experience with one or more GIS/CAD (ESRI preferred)
Must have impeccable communication and comprehension skills in the English language, both written and verbal.
Must be well spoken and presentable in both appearance and demeanor in the professional energy industry environment.
Must be able to multi‐task, manage time constraints and make deadlines.
Must be able to work in a cross-functional team environment as well as independently.
Must be available to work on‐sight at customer locations for one or more weeks per month.
Must be available to work eight hour shifts, Monday through Friday, during business hours.
The ability to think analytically and solve problems.
Genuinely enthusiasm toward learning, pushing technical limits and finding new solutions.
Knowledge in principles of cartography, including coordinate systems and projections, map composition and symbology.
Spatial analysis and geo-processing tools expertise (geocoding, linear referencing, routing, networks, CAD-GIS interaction, metadata, symbology, web-based mapping applications, WMS/web services).
3D and Orthographic Imagery interpretation, raster manipulation, acquisition and utilization(Aerial Photography, Satellite Imagery, DEMs, TINs, LiDAR,).
GPS hardware and software familiarity.
